Crystal-energized meditation banners are unique enough, but they’re not the only paintings in Austin artist Mickie Bellah’s studio. A new type of abstracts has sparked her enthusiasm. The channeled Surrealistic Abstract paintings are very, very exciting because I know what the final painting will look like.

Many ideas, shapes, and form come to Bellah during meditation, and sometimes colors as well. Using thinned oil paint, the pure colors mix on the canvas and blend at sharp angles and graceful lines. While drying overnight, the paint moves on its own, and images start to appear that remind us of something we need to remember or work on for personal growth, she explained.

Bellah also does unique Astrology Birth Chart paintings based on the date, time and location of birth. Colors are determined from the person’s chart, and each birth sign has its own color. The positions of the Sun, Moon and Rising Sign in a person’s chart determine the dominant colors, while colors of other signs are less prominent.

The response from people who have commissioned the paintings, Bellah says, has been one of awe and amazement.
